The Ellen MacArthur Foundation works with business, government and academia to build a framework for an economy that is restorative and regenerative by design, and home to the New Plastics Economy (https://newplasticseconomy.org/about), an ambitious, three-year initiative to build momentum towards a plastics system that works. In partnership with McKinsey & Company and the World Economic Forum, their report, "The new plastics economy: Rethinking the future of plastics," offers a solution oriented overview of the issue, with accompanying ifographics avialble for dowload. This report is the source of the often cited, and widely accepted statement that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

The New Plastics Economy: Catalysing Action (2017)

Presented at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos in January 2017, the report provides a clear action plan, endorsed by over 40 industry leaders, for the global plastics industry to design better packaging, increase recycling rates, and introduce new models for making better use of packaging.
